Silvie Granatelli Workshop

The studio of Silvie Granatelli lies at the confluence of the Beaver Creek and the Little River. Once an old Mill site, you can stand on the bridge over the water and maybe catch a glimpse of the migrating Blue Herons that often rest there. Silvie has been successful nationally with her work, making elegant and very personal functional porcelain pottery. Recipient of a Virginia Museum Fellowship, she teaches part-time at Virginia Tech as well as many workshops around the country. Her work can be seen in numerous ceramic books and publications. Silvie is one of the excellent potters who works in the 16 Hands Pottery Area near Floyd, VA (west central Virginia). Using porcelain, she cuts, pieces, alters, and recreates it, by adding textures for lots of variety and flair. Painting delightful still lifes inside the serving pieces with underglazes, she then finishes it with a lovely glazing. But don't take our word for it, go look at the web site that has an extensive gallery of her work: www.16hands.com. There are many fine artists to see at this web site, but be sure to look at the lovely work that Silvie produces - then sign up for the workshop!
